Journey

Embracing
English Growing
up
in
China,
I
was
given
the
name
Wang.
It
is
a
common
last
name
in
my
country
and
symbolizes
a
sense

our

and
roots.
However,
as
I
grew
older
and
started
to
explore
the
world
beyond
my
hometown,
I
realized

pronounce

remember

people
whose
first
language
is
not
Chinese. When
I
decided
to
study
abroad
in
an
English-speaking
country,
I
knew
I
needed
to
choose
an
English
name.
At
first,
I
thought
it
would
be
easy
to
pick
a
name
that
sounded
similar
to
Wang,
such
as
Wayne
or
Warren.
However,
after
doing
some
research,
I
discovered
that
English
names
should
not
just
be
a
translation
of
my
Chinese
name,
but
also
reflect
my
personality
and
values.
After
much
consideration,
I
finally
settled
on
Zoe,
which
means
"life"
in
Greek
and
embodies
my
love
for
nature
and
living
a
healthy
lifestyle.
I
was
nervous
about
introducing
myself
with
a
new
name,
but
I
quickly
realized
that
it
made
it
easier
for
my
classmates
and
professors
to
remember
me
and
made
me
feel
more
confident. Over
time,
I
began
to
embrace
my
English
name
as
a
way
to
connect
with
people
from
different
backgrounds
and
cultures.
Whenever
I
introduced
myself
as
Zoe,
people
would
smile
and
ask
where
I
was
from.
It
was
a
great
conversation
starter
that
allowed
me
to
share
my
own
story
and
learn
about
others
as
well. Changing
my
name
from
Wang
to
Zoe
was
a
small
but
significant
step
in
my
journey
of
embracing
English
and
becoming
a
global
citizen.
It
helped
me
break
down
language
barriers
and
connect
with
people
on
a
deeper
level.
I
am
proud
to
be
known
as
Zoe
and
grateful
for
the
new
experiences
and

it

my
